Managing Google Maps Offline Download, Delete, and Troubleshoot

 Download Offline Maps

Before your trip or when connected to Wi-Fi:

  • Open Google Maps on your phone
  • Enter the location, for example, Chicago Botanic Garden.
  • Move to right until you see more…
  • Tap More.
  • Tap Download to download the offline map.
  • Go back and Tap your profile icon (top right)
  • Tap Offline maps that will show the offline map you downloaded.
  • Tap the 3 dots in the offline downloaded map, you have options to update, View, Rename and Delete.

📌 Tip: You can download multiple regions (e.g., San Francisco + Yosemite) and rename them for easy reference.

2️ Use Offline Maps

Once downloaded:

  • Open Google Maps (even in airplane mode)
  • Search for places or get driving directions within the saved area
  • GPS still works, but no traffic, walking, or transit info

3️ Delete or Manage Offline Maps

To free up space or remove outdated maps:

  • Go to Profile iconOffline maps
  • Tap the three dots next to a map
  • Choose Delete, Rename, or Update

🧹 Tip: Maps auto-expire after ~15 days unless updated. You can enable auto-updates over Wi-Fi in settings.
