Download Offline Maps
Before your trip or when connected to Wi-Fi:
- Open Google Maps on your phone
- Enter the location, for example, Chicago Botanic Garden.
- Move to right until you see more…
- Tap More.
- Tap Download to download the offline map.
- Go back and Tap your profile icon (top right)
- Tap Offline maps that will show the offline map you downloaded.
- Tap the 3 dots in the offline downloaded map, you have options to update, View, Rename and Delete.
📌 Tip: You can download multiple regions (e.g., San Francisco + Yosemite) and rename them for easy reference.
2️⃣ Use Offline Maps
Once downloaded:
- Open Google Maps (even in airplane mode)
- Search for places or get driving directions within the saved area
- GPS still works, but no traffic, walking, or transit info
3️⃣ Delete or Manage Offline Maps
To free up space or remove outdated maps:
- Go to Profile icon → Offline maps
- Tap the three dots next to a map
- Choose Delete, Rename, or Update
🧹 Tip: Maps auto-expire after ~15 days unless updated. You can enable auto-updates over Wi-Fi in settings.
⚠️ Common Issues
- Map not showing? Download may have failed — try again with stable Wi-Fi
- GPS not working offline? Ensure location services are enabled
- Storage full? Delete unused maps or move them to SD card (Android only)
- Outdated info? Update maps manually or enable auto-update
