Case Study - Synchronizing data automatically via VPN

Situation: The client is using the pcAnywhere to synchronize the data between two servers (chicagotech and ms-mvps) connecting remotely. It works fine, but he would like to do it automatically.

Analysis and Solution:

1. Since the office1 has T1 line with static IP while office2 has DSL with dynamic IP, we can create a PPTP auto-VPN to connect both sites.

2. We will use robocopy command line to synchronize the data with a report, for example, ROBOCOPY \\chicagotech\mydata\ \\ms-mvps\mydata >c:\logs\chicagotech.txt

3. Create a batch to combine above 1 and 2 steps.

4. Use Windows scheduled Tasks to run the batch file. When it starts, the auto-VPN will establish the VPN tunnel first and robocopy will copy the modified data from chicagotech to ms-mvps.
