Situation: The client is running Veeam backup. It has a problem. When they try to stop the Veeam Backup service, it is stopping forever.

Troubleshooting: If you wait for a while and press F5, it may stop. However, in some cases, if is never stops, you can use command line taskkill /f /pid [PID] to kill it. Here is how.

1. Find out the Service Name by going in to services and double click on the service which has stuck.  Write down the “Service Name”, for example VeeamBackupSvc in this case.

2. Find out the PID of the service by opening an elevated command prompt and type in: sc queryex servicename, for example

sc queryex VeeamBackupSvc

C:\Windows\system32>sc queryex VeeamBackupSvc

SERVICE_NAME: VeeamBackupSvc
TYPE : 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS
STATE : 1 STOPPED
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x0
PID : 0
FLAGS :

Write down the PID, 0 in this example.

3. Kill the PID by running this command taskkill /f /pid [PID], in this example

taskkill /f /pid 0

4. If it is successful you should receive the following message:

SUCCESS: The process with PID 0 has been terminated.

Situation: You have a problem to uninstall Windows update by following these steps:

How to uninstall Windows 10 update

Resolution: You an option to uninstall Windows Update by using command prompt. Here is the example to uninstall KB:4561608.
1. Type cmd in the search box.

2. Right click on Command prompt and run as administrator.
3. A black screen will open.
5. Type the following command after replacing the KB ID with the one that you wish to uninstall: wusa /uninstall /kb:[id]
6. For example: wusa /uninstall /KB:4561608
7. Once done typing hit enter.

Situation: The printer can’t print. Installing latest printer driver doesn’t fix the problem.

Troubleshooting: Option 1. This is a known printing issue and Microsoft have downloads may fix the problem:

Option 2: Uninstall two of the updates considered problematic on those printing issue: KB4560960 e KB4557957. This post may help:

Situation; Windows 10 computer has a problem to install Windows update with error code: 0x80070424

Troubleshooting: 1. Check the security software such as anti virus, malwarebytes. Paherps, you need to install the latest upadte.

2. If the anti virus has an issue or can’t run it, it could malware issue. Clean the malware first.

3. Download and install Windows Update Assistant from Microsoft. This step by step video may help:

Situation After installing Windows 10 new version 2004, multiple office computer drop WiFi connections every 10-15 mins.

Troubleshooting: 1. install latest WiFi adapter driver.

2. Install latest update for security software such as anti virus, Malwarebytes.

Situation: When attempting to use VPN on Windows 10, you may receive this message: A connection to the remote computer could not be established.  You might need to change the network settings for this connection.

Troubleshooting: Option 1:

1. Type device in the search, and click on Device Manager.
2. Under Network Adapters, uninstall all adapters starting with “WAN Miniport” – Right click, Uninstall.
3. Once you’ve uninstalled all, go to the menu and select “Scan for Hardware Changes” and those adapters will reinstall automatically without restarting. 

Situation: After Windows update, you may lose mapped network drives with this message: “The specified network name is no longer available” message.

1. Disconnect and re-connect the network drive.
2. If re-mapping doesn’t fix the problem, make sure the SMC client is enabled by going to Control Panel>Uninstall Programs>Turn Windows feature on or off.

Situation: The small company gets some new computers and they install Office 365. However, they repeatedly prompts to activate Office 365.

Troubleshooting: This can happen if you don’t uninstall the pre-installed OEM version of Office on your new PC before installing Office 365. You may have two options:

Option 1: Go to Control Panel>Programs and Features to uninstall OEM version of Office.

Option 2: Modify the Registry by following these steps.

1. Close the activation window and all Office apps.
2. In the search, type regedit and click on Registry Editor.
3. On the left side of the Registry Editor, under Computer, navigate to the following key in the registry:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\OEM
4. Right click the OEM value and click File>Export.
5. Save the key.
6. After the key is backed up, select Edit>Delete.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for the following key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\OEM
8. Close the Registry Editor and start Office again.

Situation: When installing windows update, you may receive this message: “There were some problems installing updates, but we’ll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80080005)”

Troubleshooting: Option 1: Rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder by following these steps:

1. Disconnect the network.
2. Run Command Prompt (as Admin).
3. Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

4. Rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

4. Now, let’s restart the services:

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

5. Exit in the Command Prompt.and then restart the computer.

Option 2: Download and install Windows update assistant from Microsoft.

Situation: The user has a computer running Windows 10 version 2004. The System process continuously consumes 20% of CPU.

Resolution: Using xperf and Windows Performance Analyzer I was able to identify AMD Video Card  driver is the source of my problem.
