Fixing Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) after Windows Update

You may experience a blue screen error or stop error during the upgrade process of Windows 10, during Restart after the update, or when running an app after the update. This article shows all our case collections with resolutions.

Case 1: The client has a Lenovo Laptop running Windows 10. After a Windows update, she keeps having Blue Screen issue randomly.

Resolution: Upgrade computer BIOS

•We fix the problem by install Lenovo BIOS.

•Go to Lenovo System Update

•The System Update utility will give you upgrade options.

•Check the updates you want and click Next.

•The upgrade may take a few minutes.

Case 2: Whenever the client starts a Windows update, the computer shutdown with this blue screen error.

Resolution : Repair hard drive errors

1.In the search box on the taskbar, type command prompt, and then select Run as administrator from the list of options.

2.Select Yes.  

3.In the window that appears, type the following command, including the space as shown:
chkdsk /f C:
and then press Enter.

4.Enter Y and press Enter

5.Repairs will automatically start on your hard drive, and you’ll be asked to restart your device.

6. After restart, try the update installation.

Case 3: When the client tries to install Windows 10 version 20H2, he gets blue screen with stop code memory Management. 

Resolution: Run Memory Diagnostic Tool.

1. Click on Start Menu and type Memory Diagnostic.

2. Click on Select Windows Memory Diagnostics.

3. Click on Restart now and check for problems.

Note: It will restart your computer. So save and close apps.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions. It may take half hour to check any problems.

Note: you can also use manufactory memory diagnostic tool to check any errors. 

Case 4: Whenever the client installs Windows 10 Version 20H2, he gets blue screen with PAGE_FAILT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error.

Resolution: We fix this problem by install latest hardware driver

1. In the Search bar, type Device Manager.

2. Open Device Manager.

3. Expand the suspected device that causes the problem, Firmware in our example.

4. Right-click the device and select Update Driver Software.

5. You may need to restart the computer, and then try the update again.

Case 5: The client gets “Your PC ran into a problem and need to restart” with stop code INACCESSSIBLE DEVICE when install Windows 10 Update.

Resolution: We fixed the blue screen error by performing a clean restart into Windows

A clean restart starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

1) Run MSCONFIG.EXE.

2) In the Services tab, click “Hide All Microsoft Services” and click

“Disable All”.

3) In the Startup tab, click “Disable All”. Click OK. (This will

temporarily prevent third-party programs from running automatically during start-up.)

4) Restart, and then try the update installation

Case 6: If above clean start, we can try Safe mode by following these steps.

1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.

2. Press the power button again to turn on your device.

3. On the first sign that Windows has started, for example, Dell’s logo hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.

4. Press the power button again to turn on your device.

5. When Windows restarts, hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.

6. Press the power button again to turn on your device.

7. Allow your device to fully restart to enter WinRE.

8. On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.

9. Select Advanced options.

10. Select Setup Settings.

11. Select Restart.

12. After your device restarts, you’ll see a list of options. Select 5 for Safe Mode with Networking.

13. Open Control Panel.

14. Select Uninstall a program under Programs. If you’re using Large/Small icons View, Select Uninstall a program under Programs and Features.

15. On the left-hand side, select View installed updates.

16. Right-click the update you want to uninstall, or the latest update.

17. Click Uninstall.

18. Select Yes to confirm and then Restart Now after the update uninstalled.

19. Try to re-install the Windows updater after the restart.

Notes: If you need to exit safe mode, here’s how:

1. In the Search box, type msconfig, and then select OK.

2. Select the Boot tab.

3. Under Boot options, clear the Safe boot check box.

Fixing Windows 10 Cumulative updates January 2021 issues


Many people have report that they have problems to install Windows 10 Cumulative updates January 2021. This article shows all our case collections with resolutions.

Resolution 1: Manually download the specific update from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install it.

1.Access the Microsoft Update Catalog website: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx

2.Enter the update package number into the search bar, for example KB4592438. Click Search.

3.It will show the search results. Select the correct version that’s compatible with your PC. Then click download.

4.Click on .msu link to download it.

5.Double-click on .msu file to install the update.

6.You may need to restart the computer.

Resolution 2: Repair hard drive errors

1.In the search box on the taskbar, type command prompt, and then select Run as administrator from the list of options.

2.Select Yes

3.In the window that appears, type the following command, including the space as shown:
chkdsk /f C:
and then press Enter.

4.Enter and press Enter

5.Repairs will automatically start on your hard drive, and you’ll be asked to restart your device.

6.After restart, try the update installation.

Resolution 3: Perform a clean restart into Windows

A clean restart starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

1) Run MSCONFIG.EXE.

2) In the Services tab, click “Hide All Microsoft Services” and click

“Disable All”.

3) In the Startup tab, click “Disable All”. Click OK. (This will

temporarily prevent third-party programs from running automatically during

start-up.)

4) Restart, and then try the update installation

Resolution 4: Repair system files

1. In the search box on the taskbar, type command prompt, then select Run as administrator from the list of options.

2. In the window that appears, type this command including spaces as shown:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

3. Press Enter. When the command operation has run successfully, you’ll see a confirmation message from Command Prompt that says, “The restore operation completed successfully” or “The operation completed successfully”. 

Note: If you don’t see a confirmation message, retype the command and try again.

4. Restart, and then try the update installation

Resolution 5: Restore system files

1. In the search box on the taskbar, type command prompt, then select Run as administrator from the list of options.

2. In the window that appears, type this command including spaces as shown:

sfc /scannow

3. Press Enter. Wait until the sfc scan verification reaches 100% completion, and then close Command Prompt.

4. Restart, and then try the update installation

Resolution 6: Resetting Operating System

• Type in “RESET PC” in the Search bar.

• Click on Open.

• Click  on Get started to reset the PC.

• Note: You may have another option to Go back to the previous version of Windows 10 if  the PC was updated in 10 days.

Resolution 7: Install latest Windows Version

•In one of our cases, the client has the problem to install KB4592438 on his windows 10 Version 2004. We fix the problem by installing version 20H2.

Resolution 8: Restart Windows Update components

1.Start Command Prompt as administrator.

2.When Command Prompt starts, enter the following commands:

Net Stop bits

Net Stop wuauserv

Net Stop appidsvc

Net Stop cryptsvc

Ren %systemroot%SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak •Ren %systemroot%system32catroot2 catroot2.bak

Net Start bits

Net Start wuauserv

Net Start appidsvc

Net Start cryptsvc

After running the commands, check if the problem is resolved.

Resolution 9: Use Windows Update Troubleshooter
* Press Windows Key + I to open the Settings app.
* Once the Settings app opens, Troubleshooting in the left pan

* Click on Additional troubleshooting

* Click on Windows Update to Resole problem.

Resolution 10: Delete the Windows Update cache

Stop Windows Update service

* Delete the Windows Update cache located in “%SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistrubution”,

* Restart the Windows update service

Resolution 11: Free up some drive space so you can run updates

Make sure that your device has enough space. Your device requires at least 16 GB of free space to upgrade a 32-bit OS, or 20 GB for a 64-bit OS. If your PC is out of the spaces, please free up some.

•Configure Storage Sense or run it: In windows 10, click Settings>System>Storage. If it is off, turn it on.

•Manage Storage spaces: In Settings>System>Storage, you have an option to manage Storage space.

•Or Run Disk Cleanup. Type cleanup in search bar and run it.

* Restart the computer and try the update installation.

Resolution 12: Disable security software such as antivirus, Malwarebytes, and try to install the updates.

* For example, to disable Symantec Endpoint Protection, click on tray icon.

Right click on Symantec Endpoint Protection and then Disable Symantec Endpoint Protection

Resolution 13: Upgrade computer BIOS

* In one of our cases, the client can’t install the update on her Laptop.

Problems to install Windows Update KB4592438 with error code: 0x80070003

Fixing windows update error code 80070003

Method 1:

I would suggest you to run Windows Update troubleshooter and check.

Follow these steps to run Windows Update troubleshooter.

a.      Press Windows key + W and type troubleshooting.

b.      Select Troubleshooting.

c.       Select View All on the top left corner.

d.      Run Windows update troubleshooter.

Method 2:

I would suggest you toremove the temporary files that Windows uses to identify updates for your computer.

Step 1: Stop Windows Update service

Follow these steps to stop Windows Update service.

a.      Press Windows key + R and type “services.msc”.

b.      Search for Windows Update service, right click on it and select Stop.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Update files

Follow these steps to delete temporary files.

a.      Press Windows key+ E and double-click the local hard disk where Windows is installed.

b.      Double-click the Windows folder, and then double-click the SoftwareDistribution folder.

c.       Double-click the DataStore folder to open it, and then delete all files in the folder.

d.      Click the Back button. In the SoftwareDistribution folder, double-click the Download folder to open it, delete all files in the folder, and then close the window.

Step 3: Start Windows Update service

Follow these steps to start Windows Update service.

a.      Press Windows key + R and type “services.msc”.

b.      Search for Windows Update service, right click on it and select Start.

Problem to install Windows update KB4592438

Method 1:

I would suggest you to run Windows Update troubleshooter and check.

Follow these steps to run Windows Update troubleshooter.

a.      Press Windows key + W and type troubleshooting.

b.      Select Troubleshooting.

c.       Select View All on the top left corner.

d.      Run Windows update troubleshooter.

Method 2:

I would suggest you toremove the temporary files that Windows uses to identify updates for your computer.

Step 1: Stop Windows Update service

Follow these steps to stop Windows Update service.

a.      Press Windows key + R and type “services.msc”.

b.      Search for Windows Update service, right click on it and select Stop.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Update files

Follow these steps to delete temporary files.

a.      Press Windows key+ E and double-click the local hard disk where Windows is installed.

b.      Double-click the Windows folder, and then double-click the SoftwareDistribution folder.

c.       Double-click the DataStore folder to open it, and then delete all files in the folder.

d.      Click the Back button. In the SoftwareDistribution folder, double-click the Download folder to open it, delete all files in the folder, and then close the window.

Step 3: Start Windows Update service

Follow these steps to start Windows Update service.

a.      Press Windows key + R and type “services.msc”.

b.      Search for Windows Update service, right click on it and select Start.

Setup DHCP on WiFi Router

To setup DHCP on a WiFi router, you may have many options. This article shows some cases.

Case 1: A home user has Comcast Internet Service. By default, the xfinity modem assigns 10.1.10.0/24 IP address. He would like to change to 192.168.11.0/24.

1. Login xfinity website, for example https://10.1.10.1

2. Navigate to Gateway>Connection>Local IP Configuration.

3. Modify the IPv4 settings.

Tip: You have an option to restore default settings.

Case 2: The small company has Windows 2012 R2 DC with DHCP. They would like to use the same DHCP and LAN.

In this case, we can setup DHCP Relay.

Problem to access the internet on Paloalto Firewall

I am configuring a new AP-850. MGT port works fine and I can access the Internet. Now, I configure ethernet1/1 to access the Internet.
