Setting up a new HP LaserJet MFP Printer

🧰 What You’ll Need

  • A computer or mobile device
  • Wi-Fi network name and password
  • HP Smart app (installed from the Microsoft Store)

🛠️ Step-by-Step Setup Guide

1. Unbox and Power On

  • Remove all packing materials.
  • Plug in the printer and turn it on.
  • Wait for the blue wireless light to blink—this means it’s in Wi-Fi setup mode.
    • If it’s not blinking, press and hold Wireless + Cancel (X) for 3 seconds to reset Wi-Fi.

2. download and Install HP Smart App

  • On your PC or phone, open the HP Smart app.
  • Click “Add printer”.
  • The app will search for printers in setup mode.

3. Connect to Wi-Fi

  • Select your printer from the list and click continue.
  • Enter your Wi-Fi credentials.
  • The app will send them to the printer and connect it to your network.
  • Press and release the flashing “WiFi” button on your printer to confirm the connection.

4. Assign Static IP (Optional but Recommended)

Once connected:

  • In HP Smart, go to Advanced Settings → opens the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Navigate to Network Settings → IPv4 Configuration.
  • Set a static IP (e.g., 192.168.12.50) outside your DHCP range.
  • Save and reboot the printer.

5. Install Drivers (if needed)

  • HP Smart usually handles this automatically.
  • For full functionality (scanning, firmware updates), you can also install the full driver package from HP.

  • You can use Wi-Fi Direct if you want to print without connecting to your home network.

  • Print a Network Configuration Page for your reference by Pressing and holding the Wireless button đź“¶ and the Information button ℹ️ at the same time for about 3 seconds.
