HP LaserJet MFP Keeps Losing Wi Fi – How to Fix

Step-by-Step Fix: Restore Stable Wi-Fi Connection

🔹 1. Reset Wi-Fi Setup Mode

This clears old credentials and puts the printer in pairing mode.

  • Press and hold the Wireless button 📶 and the Cancel buttonfor 3 seconds
  • Wait for the blue wireless light to blink slowly—this means it’s ready to connect

🔹 2. Use HP Smart to Reconnect

  • Open the HP Smart app on your Windows PC
  • Click “Add Printer”
  • Select your M140w from the list
  • Enter your Wi-Fi credentials (SSID + password)
  • The app will send them to the printer and complete setup

⚠️ Make sure your PC is on the same Wi-Fi network and that your T-Mobile gateway is broadcasting 2.4GHz (some HP printers don’t support 5GHz).

Set Static IP Directly on the HP Printer

This is the simplest and most reliable method given T-Mobile’s restrictions.

Steps:

  1. Access the printer’s control panel (or web interface if it’s networked).
  2. Navigate to Network SettingsTCP/IP Settings.
  3. Disable DHCP and manually assign:
    • IP address: Choose one outside the DHCP pool (e.g., if DHCP range is 192.168.12.100–200, pick 192.168.12.50).
    • Subnet mask: Usually 255.255.255.0.
    • Gateway: Use the IP of your T-Mobile gateway (typically 192.168.12.1).
    • DNS: You can use public DNS like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1.

This avoids relying on the router to reserve IPs, which T-Mobile’s firmware doesn’t support well.
