Method 1: Using Visual Voicemail (Recommended)
This is the fastest method and works on most Samsung Galaxy phones.
- Open the Phone app on your Samsung S22.
- Tap on the “Voicemail” tab, which is usually located at the bottom of the screen.
- You should see a list of all your voicemails.
- Tap and hold on one of the voicemails until a checkbox appears next to it.
- Look for a “Select all” option. This is often a checkbox or a button at the top of the screen (sometimes represented by three dots or a trash can icon that appears after you select the first message).2
- Once you have selected all the messages, tap the “Delete” or trash can icon.3
- Confirm that you want to delete the messages.
If you don’t see a “Select all” option, you can still quickly select multiple messages by tapping the checkbox next to each one, then hit delete.
Method 2: Calling Your Voicemail
If you don’t use Visual Voicemail, or if the “delete all” option isn’t available in the app, you’ll need to call your voicemail service.
- Open the Phone app.
- Press and hold the ‘1’ key. This will automatically dial your carrier’s voicemail number.
- Enter your voicemail password when prompted.
- Listen carefully to the menu options. Most carriers have an option like:
- “Press # to manage messages.”
- “Press 4 for advanced options.”
- “Press 7 to delete.”4
- Look for an option to “delete all saved messages” or “erase all messages.”
- Follow the prompts to confirm the deletion.
What if the Voicemail Notification won’t go away?
Sometimes, even after deleting all messages, the voicemail notification icon remains. This is a common bug on some Android phones. Here’s how to fix it:
- Go to Settings > Apps.
- Tap on the “Phone” app. (You might need to tap the three dots in the corner and select “Show system apps” to find it).
- Tap on “Storage”.
- Tap on “Clear cache” first. If the notification is still there, tap “Clear data.”
Important Note: Clearing the data for the phone app will reset its settings and may delete your recent call history.5 It will not delete your contacts. This is often a last resort to get rid of a persistent notification.
If none of these methods work, the issue is likely with your carrier’s voicemail service itself. In that case, the best course of action is to contact your mobile carrier’s customer support and ask them to reset your voicemail box.
