No icons show on the Desktop

Symptoms: After logon Windows, you don't see any icons on the Desktop and you don't have Start option. Right clicking on the Desktop doesn't give you any options.

Causes: 1. Windows Explorer or explorer.exe is damaged.

2. It could be a 3rd party software that disables the explorer.exe, for example, Startup Manager.

Troubleshooting: 1. press Ctrl+Shift+Del to start the Tasks Manager. Click Processes and make sure explorer.exe is running.

2. If the Startup Manager disables the explorer.exe. start Takes Manager and click on File>New Task (Run...). run the Startup Manager to enable exlporer.exe.
