Veeam Unable to create snapshot (Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0) - Resolution with screenshots

Situation: The client is running Veeam v8 on Windows 2012 R2 to backup VMs. One of VMs backup failed with this error:  Failed to prepare guests for volume snapshot.

and Unable to create snapshot (Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0) (mode: Veeam application-aware processing). Details: Failed to prepare guests for volume snapshot.

Resolutions:

1. To resolve, increase the shadow storage area for the volume containing your virtual machines, or set the maximum size to “No limit.” Typically 15-20% of the volume is needed to create shadow copies. Right click on the Volume hosts VMs. Select Configure Shadow Copies.

Select the volume. Click Settings. Modify the Maximum size.

2. Uncheck "Enable application-aware processing" on Veeam Backup.

3. Restart the VM and try it again.
