“Trust Relationship has failed between the PDC and the workstation”

"Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the controller is down or because your computer account was not found”

“The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed”

“System Error 1789 has occurred. The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed”

“System can not log you on to the domain because the systems computer account in its primary domain is missing or the password on that account is incorrect”

Event ID 5722 – “The session setup to the Windows NT Domain Controller <Unknown> for the domain <DomainName> failed because the Windows NT Domain Controller does not have an account for the computer <ComputerName>”

 

Symptoms: 1. When logon a workstation to a Windows domain, you may receive this message: "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the controller is down or because your computer account was not found”

2. You are in NT 4 Server Manager and try to view the workstation’s properties. You receive the following message: “The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed”. If the workstation is XP, you may receive this message: "Trust Relationship has failed between the PDC and the workstation".

3. When using the following commands:

Net Use \\<ComputerName>\<Share> or Net View \\<ComputerName>

You may receive the following message: “System Error 1789 has occurred. The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed”.

 

4. You are in NT 4 User Manager and try to add a user account from the Member Server or Workstation's database. You may receive the following error message: “The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed”.

5. In Event Viewer on the Member Server or Workstation, you receive Event ID 5722 – “The session setup to the Windows NT Domain Controller <Unknown> for the domain <DomainName> failed because the Windows NT Domain Controller does not have an account for the computer <ComputerName>”.

 

6. When you attempt to log on to the console from a workstation, you receive the message: “System can not log you on to the domain because the systems computer account in its primary domain is missing or the password on that account is incorrect”.

 

Resolutions: 1. Remove the workstation from the domain and re-join it.

2. Install or re-install latest SP.

3. Create computer account in the DC.
