System error 21 has occurred - The device is not ready.

Symptoms: 1. When trying to map DFS using net command, for example net use \\chicagotech\shared, you may receive "System error 21 has occurred. The device is not ready".

2. When you try to access a DFS from My Network Places, you may receive  \\chicagotech\shared is not accessible - The device is not ready.

Resolutions:

1. Make sure the DFS is available.

2. If you have a name resolution issues, You may try the following commands

net use \\FQDN\shared

net use \\servername\shared

net use \\serveripaddress\shared

3. Check the DNS and WINS settings.
