Computer Browser Event I D 8021 and 8032

Situation: 1. When using net view command, you may receive this message: System error 6118 has occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

2. When attempting to access My Network Places, you may receive this message: mydomain is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource

3. In the Windows Event Viewer, there are ID 8021 and 8032 logged.
Event ID: 8021: The browser service was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master \\SBS2008 on the network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{51782021-3AE0-48DC-9088-DFC739601BE6}.

Network: \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{51782021-3AE0-48DC-9088-DFC739601BE6}

This event may be caused by a temporary loss of network connectivity. If this message appears again, verify that the server is still connected to the network. The return code is in the Data text box.

Event ID: 8032: The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{51782021-3AE0-48DC-9088-DFC739601BE6}. The backup browser is stopping.

Resolution:
1. Enable WINS on one of servers and setup. Please refer to this link:

2. If you don't have server enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Or check this page:

3. Use browstat.exe to troubleshoot it. You can download browstat.exe from here: http://www.chicagotech.net/Tools/BROWSTAT.EXE and this link may help:

4. It could be Node Type issue. Please refer to this page:

5. Make sure File and Printer Sharing is not turned off. You may use net view and net share commands to check the sharing.

6. Make sure TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service is running.

7. It is not recommended to setup multihomed computer as DC. If you have multihomed pc on the compute is the PDC, you may unbind NetBIOS from one interface in network advanced settings.

8. This problem may happen also when using Microsoft windows 2003 server, after enabling Routing and Remote Access service. Solution: enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP from the WINS tab on Advanced TCP/IP configuration.

9. Re-register NetBIOS name running nbtstat -RR command.

10. You can try using the NetBIOS Browsing Console to troubleshoot this issue.

11. If another computer except DC is the master browser, you may want to change the following registry key value to False and reboot the computer: “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters\MaintainServerList”.
