System Error 1130 - "Not enough server storage is available to process this command" and “Not enough memory to complete transaction. Close some applications and retry”.

Event ID 2011: "The Server's configuration parameter "IRPStackSize" is too small for the server to use a local device"

Symptom: 1. When attempting to map a network drive, you may receive this message: “Not enough server storage is available to process this command”. Or “Not enough memory to complete transaction. Close some applications and retry”.

2. The Event Viewer of the server computer may have Event ID 2011 with Description: The Server's configuration parameter "IRPStackSize" is too small for the server to use a local device. Please increase the value of this parameter.

 3. This error can occur during backup or restore operations with Backup Exec software.

4. After you install Norton AntiVirus for Windows or IBM AntiVirus 3.01N (Build 301.590), you receive the above messages.

Causes: These error messages can indicate the IRPStackSize or PagedPoolSize is either set too small or large on the other machine (the server that has the share). On that computer open the event log and check for event ID 2011. If this is present, it is a strong indication for this particular bug.

This error may indicate that Windows does not have enough paged pool memory available to process a command.  This can happen when the PagedPoolSize is either set too small or when an application does not re-allocate memory correctly.

Resolutions:

1. To resolve this problem, increase the IRPStackSize value in the registry first, if it doesn’t work, then try to change the PagedPoolSize key value to 0.  Refer to this page:

Not Enough ...

1) The registry value IRPstackSize may be not explicitly present. ... The Value Name should be IRPStackSize and the Data Type is REG_DWORD. ...
