Server restart/boot takes long time Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. APC and MS patch conflict Case 1: Server restart/boot takes long time The client reports that the Windows 2000 server takes long time to reboot (20 to 30 minutes). After restart, every thing work fine. Troubleshooting: 1. Check Vent Viewer for any error: none. 2. Check the DNS settings using nslookup: no error. 3. After we searched the Internet and found It's because APC power issue. Their server hangs due to Java license issue. There is a upgrade available to fix the issue. Case 2: Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. After install Microsoft Update, the client can't start or stop any services. Whenever they try, they will receive Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. Troubleshooting: 1. Rebooted the server. That doesn't fix the problem. 2. Disabled Symantec Anti-virus. That doesn't fix the problem either. 3. Ran Safe Mode. Then we can start/stop any services. So, it must one software cause this issue.
