The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003) - Resolution with screenshots

Situation: When attempting to start a VM on windows 2012 Hyper-V, the client receives this message: The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003) or the Hyper-V generates this message when creating a new VM: Failed to create external configuration store at drive name.

Case 1. When checking the Hard Drive on VM settings, the VM vhd name change from Win7-PC2 to Win7-PC2_72FADE8E-D4ED-4A5D-9072-7361F0CD153a.avhd.

If we open windows explorer, we don't see E:\VMs\Win7-PC2_72FADE8E-D4ED-4A5D-9072-7361F0CD153a.avhd.

The hard disk was crashed. Restoring it from the backup.

Case 2: The client can't export the VM so that they copy the VHDX file to another Windows 2012 Server. Since the VMs folder is D on the new server that is different from original drive E. We changing the D drive to E drive. That fix the problem.

Case 3: In above case, you can try to modify the Virtual Hard Disks settings under Hyper-V Settings.
