Can you rename a DC or domain name in SBS 2003 Q: One question about this new Server, 2003 Small business server, during the setup the name was misspelled. One letter was left of the name. My boss wants that letter on. Is there a way to change that? Example: companyname.local is what it should be but it is companynae.local. Any simple fix other than the reload which may be done anyway. A: Sorry, you can't and should not change the SBS domain name or computer name. You should re-installed it. Quoted form Microsoft, "After you install Windows Small Business Server 2003, you cannot change the full DNS name for the internal domain, the NetBIOS domain name, or the computer name. These settings are used to configure Windows Small Business Server tools and applications. To change these names, you must reinstall Windows Small Business Server 2003". Bob Lin, MS-MVP, MCSE & CNE
