Can't install CRM client in Vista

Postby guest » Thu May 07, 2009 9:47 am

Hi, I have been trying to install the CRM 3.0 light client on a Vista
machine for Outlook 2007. The computer is part of a Small Business Server
2003 domain.

The CRM appears fine in Outlook when using a domain admin account but for
all non-admin accounts, the CRM toolbar/folders etc. do not appear.

When I go to Tools\Accounts\Data Files it says that the CRM is not available
for all users (including admins) with the error 0x80040102

When I look at the add-ons for Outlook the CRM add-on appears only for the
admin account. Trying to add the MSCRM does nothing if the user is not an
admin. I have tried to manuall register the CRM addon using the "regsvr32"
command but I get the error 0x80070005.

I have installed Rollup 3.0

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For CRM 3.0, the client has to be installed by the user that is using the client.
Therefore the user has to have local admin rights to perform the installation. Once the
installation is over, you can remove local admin rights. The regsitry settings are
specific to the user.

Hi, Does this apply for Vista as well? Because I have the UAC running and
am running the install as an Admin. I have done it this way for about 6
other machines and have not run into this problem.
The machine that I am installing it on is a "clean" installation is it
possible that it is some new update?
Thank you

Do you have AntiVirus running? We have seen cases where the Antivirus is blocking the
CRM access to the program folders. Let's turn UAC and AntiVirus off for the
installation and see what happens.

I have not installed the AV yet so this was not the issue. It turns out
that I had to disable the UAC in Vista, give the users "Admin" rights for the
domain, and then manually enable the CRM addin for Outlook.

This was strange because as I mentioned previously, I have not had any
other installation issues with other computers (nonAdmin accounts and UAC).

Thank you for your help
