Vista wilress error with 0x00ce508 code

Postby guest » Mon Jan 26, 2009 6:06 pm

I'm running Vista Business on my Dell E1705 (laptop) and last night (aka this
morning at 3:00 am) I got a windows update. Now my wireless doesn't work. It
worked BEFORE the update last night. So I'm assuming the update has worked
some mischief in my computer.

I've tried turning the power off, restarting, disabling and then enabling
the driver (which is up to date.). I've also looked around the internet and
think I've found what might be the problem. I go into the Computer Management
and try to start the WLAN service (which is inactive) and I get an error
message (0x00ce508: 0x00ce508).

These are the steps I have taken thus far, anyone know whats going on and
how to fix it?

My name is John, and I work at Dell headquarters.

The first thing I would try is reverting the driver to its former
version if possible. The update may have somehow replaced or modified
the driver that shipped with the unit, or it may have corrupted the WLAN
service or one of its dependencies. Failing that, a quick system restore
to right before the update might just do the trick.

I couldn't find anything concrete on that specific error number.

I've encountered the same problem on my HP Pavilion 9500 running Vista
Ultimate x64. At first, the laptop would not do a wireless connection
using 802.11n. HP advised me to reflash the bios with the latest
version and upgrade the WLAN AutoConfig driver. After that, the driver
won't come up as a service, giving the same error message that you
encountered.

I've been through this with HP several times, and since there is
apparantly no option to roll back the driver under Vista, they have been
encouraging me to do a clean OS reinstall. Which I refuse to do.

At this point, the best think I can think of is to simply wait it out.
Hopefully Intel will fix this in its next OEM driver release.
