how to find IP address on a new Cisco AP

By defaukt, the AP will receive an IP address from DHCP server. You have diiferent options to find the IP address.

1. Conenct to the console port, use this command: show ip interface brief. You may receive a message like this:

*Mar 1 00:17:45.710: %DHCP-6-ADDRESS_ASSIGN: Interface BVI1 assigned DHCP addre
ss 10.0.1.171, mask 255.255.0.0, hostname ap

If I don't make sure the AP has a good conenction to the DHCP.

2. You can find the AP IP address from the DHCP server based on the AP Mac address and host name.

One of our clients tries to use sh ip interface brief, but it doesn't display any IP assigned by the DHCP. Then we found he was connecting the AP to a VLAN that is for wireless without DHCP. We connected AP to VLAN 1 to receive the IP from the DHCP. After configured the AP, re-connect to the wireless VLAN.

In other case, the client can't connect to WPA-Enterprise because he was connecting to VLAN 1 which is not for the wireless. After connecting to the wireless VLAN, the AP talks to the IAS for the authentication.
