Windows Server 2012+8 Direct Access working, but Windows 7

Postby guest » Sun Jun 24, 2012 10:51 am

Hi Everyone, I managed to setup a test environment with Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 as shown in a MS LAB:

With Windows 8 Consumer Preview, the direct access is working perfecty, and I can see it on the remote client status the connection.

I wanted to test with Windows 7 as well, but I've no luck. I've verified:

-Win 7 Client has received the policy for DA (it's in the same group of Win8 PC Client)

-Win 7 Client is connectet to the INTERNET network, and i CAN ping the EDGE1 Server, responding with ipv6

-NO Connections from the Win 7 Client is shown in the Remote Client Status on the Edge1 Server, and NO error logs appearing in the Win 7 client or the EDGE1 Server

-The problem should not be on the Server, since it's working with Windows 8 perfectly

Can somebody point me in the right direction to resolve this issue?

Here a printscreen of the network status of Win7 Client:

I'm also playing around with new DirectAccess features wit a bit different setup (I want to connect to my Home server which is directly connected to Internet (single-NIc configuration) using my laptop from Internet. During installation of RemoteAccess features i've choosed directAccess and VPN (recommended) configuration. Later i;ve specified all domain computers as DA client and now in second step (related to DA server configuration itself) on Authentication page here is one little checkbox "Enable Windows 7 client computers to connect via DirecAccess". But this is requires PKI implementation because in Win8 clients capable with DA simplified configuration without installing certificate authority (self-signed certificates is used). May be there is what you are looking for

Thank you a lot for your suggestion! This is what I suspected, but I tought it was possible to connect Win7 clients in the same way. We manage a lot of small/medium companies, so there is normally no PKI structures. This will be a valid reason to propose a Win8 migration or to build a PKI infrastucture..
