File/Printer Sharing Issue in VISTA Home Wireless Network

Postby noni181 » Wed Apr 11, 2007 9:06 pm

I have a desktop and a laptop running Windows Vista Home Preimum edition. I have a wireless network and both computers are in the same workgroup.

I am able to see the laptop from my destkop computer for example, and I even see the folders that I chose to share, however when I double click to open them I get this error message:

"\\DESKTOP\foldername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions

Acess is denied"

I have tried to grant access to the user account in the computer hosting the particular shared folder but although the network recognizes both of my computers, I cannot chose the other networked computer in order to select is users...

Also, I only have one printer plugged to my desktop, and although I have selected to be shared and I can see the printer from my laptop when I send something to the printer, the printer does not actually print it.

Any idea as to how this issue can be resolved?

chicagotech:

So I have to create on my desktop a user account with the same name as the user in my laptop and viceversa?

I only have one user account created in each computer, and both are administrator's account, would this be a problem? Is there a way to get around this issue another way? I like to have my computers start on Windows without having to chose a user...when actually only one user uses each computer...

I tried adding a username in each of my computers but the problem hasn't been resolved. Further both computers are running Windows Vista Home Premium, do you have autologon instructions for Vista?
