wireless connection will lost randomly

Postby chicagotech » Fri Aug 29, 2008 8:35 am

We have the wireless installed here. Lately it seems when a wireless router
close by, not sure which building, is turned on it blocks the one here out.
The connection is dropped and it seems that I have to reset the wireless
router, power plug not hard reset, a couple of times, then it gets hold. I
think it is tied to the neighbors wireless because when it happens all of
sudden there are two wireless networks available. This morning when I came
in only one, just happened again, and there are two.

I also have to check the wireless. I could have sworn I assigned it as
10.88.78.2, but it is not found when I try to use IE and that address. From
prior experience have to do hard reset to change back to 192.168.1.245 as
default. I am pretty sure I can then connect it to notebook direct to reset
configuration again.

Both networks are secured and I do not know the access code for the other network.

This issue can occur if your wireless router is not working properly. Based
on the current situation, I suggest we perform the following steps to
troubleshoot the issue.

Suggestion 1: Replace the wireless router with a known good one. Please
check whether this issue persists after replacing the wireless router.

Suggestion 2: Update the firmware of the wireless router. If the firmware
is out-of-date, the signal may be weak or unstable. Therefore, your signal
may be interfered by other strong signals. Please contact the wireless
router manufacturer to ask how to update the firmware to the latest one.

Suggestion 3: The following KB article is very useful. You can refer to it
to troubleshoot most wireless network connection issues.

Suggestion 4: Verify the wireless network card
========
1. Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc and click OK.
2. Expand Network adapters and verify if the wireless network adapter is
listed.

If the wireless network adapter is not listed or you see "!" beside the
wireless network adapter, please let me know. Also, we can perform the
following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

a. Update or reinstall the driver. Please contact the computer manufacturer
or the wireless network adapter manufacturer to ask for the latest driver
and then install it.
b. Remove the wireless network adapter, move the adapter to another
available slot, and then reinstall it.
c. Replace the wireless network adapter with a known good one.
