Vista + Mac +Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G=Computer Crashes

Postby envy4it » Wed Aug 27, 2008 3:48 pm

Hello everyone, this is a great forum and have already learned a lot and want to thank everyone for their valuable input and advice.

I have something that might prove to be a challenge to one of you. I was not able to find any topic that was similar to the problem I am having. If there is... please let me know so that I am not bothering anyone with repeated questions....

I am visiting my daughter, both her & hubby use a Mac notebook and the above named router for internet. I can connect wireless but later in the day for no apparent reason my PC will crash "Blue Screen" and the only error message I've received was " TCPIP-824BC15E" then I have to reboot. This will continue and then I will have to shut off the wireless connection. It has also happened twice when i was hard wired to the router as well. Firmware and all have been updated but still having issue. It seems to happen in the evening???

Thank you

hello blin:

Thank you for the reply. I was doing some further reading and found that maybe my problem is the security settings on the wireless router. It was set at WPA-personal TKIP and saw that this was a problem for some other readers. So I changed the security settings to WEP-128-bit as the encryption. So far everything is working OK. But as I mentioned before it seemed that my computer only crashed in the evening. It is still early here (5:30 PT) so I will wait and see if the changes I made to the router does in fact correct the problem.

Again, thank you and will let the forum know what I find out. :?

I would like to confirm how your daughter's laptop got into such problem
and if it began to happen after some software had been installed. And will
this issue happen follow certain pattern, e.g. regularly happen at a
certain time?

I suspect that driver or hardware compatibility issue results in this blue
screen. To troubleshoot blue screen issue, we need to get memory dump for
in-depth analysis. But before doing so, we can do some steps to verify it
and narrow the issue down. Therefore, you can do following steps:
1. Disable wireless network card to verify this issue:
1) Open Device manager
2) Navigate to Network Adapters
3) Disable both wireless and wired network cards
4) Will the issue re-occur in such reduced configuration?

2. When you reproduce the blue screen, please record the stop code at the
lower part of the screen, e.g 0x00000050 "0x837c3008, 0x00000001,
0x81c817ec, 0x0000000"
And better to record the message at the upper part of the screen also.
