Postby blin » Mon Dec 15, 2014 11:15 am

Situation: when running Configuration archive in Cisco Network Assistant, you may receive "The embedded TFTP server cannot start".

Troubleshooting: 1. if you also run another CNA with Configuration Archive opening, close it.

2. It could be third party TFTP is running.

We had the same issue. It was a conflict between Cisco Network Assistant and Spiceworks. When installed free TFTP on laptop it worked fine.

These error messages are related to the default service configuration option built into Cisco IOS software, which attempts to access the service configuration files from a network Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server.

Another Solution

In order to disable this feature, issue the no service config global command.

Router#config terminal

Enter configuration commands, one per line.

Router(config)#no service config

Router(config)#exit

Router#copy running-config startup-config

These error messages no longer appear at the next bootup of the router.

netstat -abn shows which program using the port. In our case, it is spiceworks.

[spoolsv.exe]
UDP 0.0.0.0:69 *:*
[spiceworks.exe]

After stopping spiceworks, I can run the ftfp.
