0x80780119 error wile trying to create an image

Postby fenton » Thu Nov 12, 2009 8:46 pm

I have a 250 GB external hard drive formatted to NTFS that has over 140 GB free on it. The drive I am trying to create an image of is a 500 GB internal hard drive formatted to NTFS as well. When I start the imaging process with the backup and restore program it tells me that the image is going to be 29 GB in size. Once started I wait about 10 to 15 minutes later and the program gives me the error 0x80780119. I have a screen shot of the error and also all of the information that you will need to understand the problem.

I agree the error code is caused by not enough Space to create the Shadow Copy.

By the way, I found a similar issue has been posted already. You can refer to the following link:

Thanks, I hope this can help you.

In addition, when you narrow down to the second condition, if our system is 32 bit Windows 7, you should try the following steps to register related dll files. (you can ignore error messages if there is any)

cd /d %windir%\system32
Net stop vss
Net stop swprv
regsvr32 ole32.dll
regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
regsvr32 es.dll
regsvr32 stdprov.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml4.dll

For Windows x64 bit we should replace c:\windows\system32 with c:\windows\SysWOW64 and execute the following command:

regsvr32 ole32.dll
regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
regsvr32 es.dll
regsvr32 stdprov.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml4.dll

Hi everybody,

I had the exact same error and none of the steps above worked for me.

When you create a system image it also takes the hidden System Reserved partition with it like you may have already noticed.
Then I noticed that partition used like 62MB of 100MB. The error says: partition of less dan 500MB needs 50MB of free space!

So this is the only solution that worked for me:

With partition manager I took about 100MB of my C-drive as space before.
Then I resized the hidden system reserved with the 100MB extra.
Restart PC, let partition manager do the work and you're done!

The System Reserved partition now uses 62MB of 200MB and creating system images works again!

Hi,

This error occurs when the System reserved partition (100 MB) has less space. Extending the partition is the solution. If Disk management does not let you do it because of lack of contiguous space, please follow the steps that I have mentioned in this thread. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/For ... 22db4fe04/

Thanks,
