Wake on LAN take long time because of checking DHCP

Postby chicagotech » Fri Jul 17, 2009 5:37 pm

Q: I followed your article How to setup and use Wake on LAN - http://www.howtonetworking.com/Windows/wol1.htm. It works. However, the wake up takes long time because it boot from DHCP.....first. How can I make it boot faster?

A: In your computer BIOS, you may have two options: Boot to network and Follow Boot order. It seems to me you are using Boot to network that is why the computer checks the DHCP first. You may want to change it to Follow Boot order (assuming you make Hard Disk as priority).
