Postby guest » Fri Sep 05, 2008 10:40 pm

We just installed a windows 2008 domain in our lab. The DC keeps receving event ID 10016 as below. Any ideas?

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM
Date: 7/11/2008 1:45:02 AM
Event ID: 10016
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: NETWORK SERVICE
Computer: ed
Description:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1}
to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

second issue to a different thread. Thank you for your understanding.

The event 10016 is related to permission issue. From my research, the CLSID
{61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1} is IIS WAMREG admin Service. To
eliminate this issue, please follow the steps below:

1. Click Start, select Administrative Tools, select Component Services
2. Expand Component Services->Computers->My Computer->DCOM Config
3. Right click IIS WAMREG admin Service, select Properties, select Security
tab
4. Under Launch and Activation permission click on Edit, add the NETWORK
SERVICE and click on Local Activation for the account.
5. Click OK and close Component Services editor

Additional information
=================
To find a CLSID name, open registry and click Edit->Find. Copy
'61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1' and click Find. When the result is
returned, check the right pane for the name of the CLSID.
