How are you backing up Hyper-V R2 clusters with DPM?

Postby guest » Wed May 02, 2012 8:47 am

I have two sites each with a hyper-v R2 cluster. We use Equallogic SANs on each site for hosting the cluster CSV volumes
We have a 2Gbe connection between both sites.
I plan to use 2 * DPM Servers for backing up each Hyper-V cluster (1 DPM server in each site).

The plan is that the DPM server in each site will backup the opposite site to provide automatic offsite backups.
How do I configure the DPM server to use the Equallogic hardware provider rather than the default snapshot provider?

How do other people backup their Hyper-V cluster CSVs using DPM?

You need to simply install the hardware VSS provider on all nodes in the cluster then configure the registry as outlined in the first link below. If you've previoulsy been using the system provider then please take care to rename or delete the DataSourceGroups.xml file on the DPM server then reboot the server afterward so that it will begin honoring the registr key and use the hardware provider.
