sbs 2011 Transaction logs growing

Postby guest » Tue May 01, 2012 10:31 pm

From your description, I understand that after a raid 5 failure, Exchange backup always fails. If my understanding is not correct, please let me know.

Based on my experience, this issue is most likely due to the corruption of some transaction logs. So, at this point, please perform following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

1. Temporarily dismount the mailbox database.

2. Open Exchange Management Shell and run following example command:

Eseutil /mh "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\<Mailbox Database Name>\<Mailbox Database Name>.edb >C:\db.txt

Please make sure the path of the EDB file is correct. Please also open "db.edb" and check whether the database is in a clean shutdown state. If you need my confirmation, please send the file to me as attachment at v-tiqin@microsoft.com

3. if it is in clean shut down status, please go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\<Mailbox Database Name> and delete all the files inside and only leave EDB file in the folder.

4. Mount the database.

5. Do the same operation against the Public Folder database.

6. Run "Set-EventLogLevel –Identity "MSExchangeIS\9002 System\Backup Restore" -Level Expert" command to set the backup log level to expert.

Then, please back up the Exchange again. If the issue persists, please collect application log and send it to me as attachment:

==================

a. Please click "Start"->click "Run" and type "eventvwr"

b. Expand "Windows Logs"->right click "Application" and click "Save all events As…"

c. Please compress the saved log files to ZIP or RAR format and send it to me at v-tiqin@microsoft.com

If you have anything unclear, please feel free to let me know. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
