Postby guest » Sun Mar 25, 2012 10:07 pm

We're using Group policy preferences to deploy shared printers for Terminal users. He TS is windows 2003 SP2. When TS users login, it takes between 15 to 20 minutes to login. The Event Viewer has this message (note: it takes 2 more minutes to map one shared printer as shown in the Event):

According to your description, I understand that the GPP has failed to deploy printer for Terminal users and it takes a long time to logon the TS. If I have misunderstood anything, please feel free to let me know.

First of all, since it takes a long for the users to logon the TS, is there any message like ”Applying Group Policy Printers” when logging on the TS? Based on the information you provided and my analysis, please try the suggestions as mentioned in the following article firstly:
Group Policy Preferences Client-Side Extension Hotfix Rollup
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=974266

If the problem still exist, please answer the following questions to clarify the issue:
1. How did you configure the GPP? Please tell me with detailed information.
2. When need to apply GPP for the servers which OS version are before Windows server 2008, , we need to install client-side extensions for them. For detailed information, please refer to the following article and you can find the sites to download the original Group Policy preference client-side extensions for your operating system:
Information about new Group Policy preferences in Windows Server 2008
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943729
3. As you mentioned that “However, administrator doesn’t have this problem.”, do you mean that the administrator can logon the TS via Remote Desktop Connection and apply the Printer related policy without any problem?

You are right. It gets "apply your personal settings". For a test, it won't have this problem if I exclude the TS user from the map printer policy. I am not in the client site.

When you apply printer mapping via GP you get 4098 warning but policy apply successfully.

The connection will be stored in the user's profile (HKCU\Network) and reapplied at next login. Which means the OS is mapping the printers already. That might lead to the GPP event log error.

Please try to disable printer redirection to test to see if the same issue still exists.

My solution is removing the print policy because the the printers have been mapped and will re-map whenever the same user login.
