Windows 2008 Directory Services Error

Postby guest » Sun Apr 24, 2011 7:31 pm

We are using Primary Domain and also Additional Domain controller. Both are running windows 2008 servers.

Now we are facing the additional domain controller to run dsa.msc command it's showing below error:

" Naming information cannot be located for the following reason: The server is not operational

If you are typing to connect to a domain controller running windows 2000, verify that windows 2000 SP3
or later is installed on the DC, or use the windows 2000 administration tools. For more information about
connecting to DCs running windows 2000, see help and support "

After getting this error once restart it's working. Please give good solution for this issue....

When this happens again, have a look at the DC that dsa.msc is talking to. This is shown in square brackets after "Active Directory Users and Computers" at the top of the left hand pane. It may be pointing to a DC that no longer exists in the domain. You can change the DC by right clicking and selecting "Change Domain Controller".

I agree with Tony. Please open Active Directory Users and Computer console and right-click the domain name to choose 'Connect to Domain controller', then choose the proper DC of windows server 2008.

If this problem still continues, please check if there is any error message in Event viewer and DNS resolution works normally.

Let me know the result.

Has this been resolved? I'm getting the exact same errors as above. Single domain controller, works great for about 3 days then loses communication to AD. Only a reboot temporarily fixes the problem. DNS seems to work even when the server is having this issue. DCDiag gives me this:

Directory Server Diagnosis

Performing initial setup:

Trying to find home server...

Home Server = inmdc1

Ldap search capabality attribute search failed on server inmdc1, return

value = 81

Any help would be great!!

I am having the same issue now on 4 domain controllers.

Built 4 new 2008 x64 servers, promoted all. No errors or issues for 2 weeks, now this happens everyday.

DNS resolution still seems to be working fine.

Opening Users and computers, domains and trusts and sites all fail, with these errors.

The computer they are using, in most is themselves, domains and trusts is the PDC role holder, which is also 2008 x64 server. So right clicking and choose connect to domain controller makes no difference, trying to connect to itself or another of the new ones.

A reboot fixes. But problem reoccurs now every 1 to 3 days on each server.

DCDIAG has no errors and we have no domain controllers on the domain that are older than 2003 R2. Functional level of domain/forest is 2003.

In my case, it is DNS issue. I re-configured correct DNS and run ipconfig /flushdns and /registerdns, but that doesn't fix it until rebooting.
