XP Home netbook doesn't see the smartphone

Postby guest » Sun Apr 10, 2011 6:45 pm

I have a netbook running XP Home Sp3. Whenever I connect a smartphone to the netbook, it doesn't see the phone. It is conencting for sure because it is charging the phone. What I did:

1. I have tried different phones, for example Blackberry Storm and HTC ThunderBolt. All have the same issue.

2. I have Installed the phone driver and softwrae. The software says not connection.

3. All those phone can connect to other computers without any issues.

$. I have tried different USB port.

What could be the problem?

I understand that some Smartphones can't connect to a notebook which is Windows XP Home SP3.

Before we go further, please help me clarify the following two items:

1. From your feedback "All those phone can connect to other computers without any issues.", please let me know what are the OS for these computers? Is it Windows XP HOME Edition?

2. Could you select another USB Device such as removable hardware and then check the issue?

As I don't have these devices, so I don’t know if these devices are supported to connect on Windows XP Home Edition.

So if possible, please select another computer which installed Windows XP Home Edition, and then check the issue again. If the issue happens only this specific machine, we can try to update the Universal Serial Bus controller’s drivers, and then check the issue.

Other computers are XP Pro, Vista Pro and Win 7 Pro. If I try different USB storage drive, it works. Then I tried one Win 7 Home. I have the same issue. Could it be the Home edition issue?

So the issue is very clear: Since other USB Storage driver can work on the Windows XP Home Edition, and we can reproduce the issue on another Windows XP Home Edition, so this smart phone device should not be compatible with Windows XP Home OS.

yes, it is device issue. Similar case can be found here: Some computers can't see the Blackberry Phone - http://www.chicagotech.net/netforums/vi ... =9&t=14606
