connection has been lost. Attempting to reconnect to session

Postby guest » Thu Jun 16, 2011 8:54 am

Situation: when we RDP the workstations via RWA from the laptops, it will disconnected and prompts the message “The connection has been lost. Attempting to reconnect to your session”.

Case 1: What is the condition the RDP session would be disconnected? Can you provide the detailed information? For example, the RDP session was idled for 20-30 minutes? To keep the RDP session alive, we need to make sure the active operations on the remote workstations during the RDP session. If RDP session is idled , the remote computer will disconnect the RDP session automatically.

Case 2: Have you tried to RDP to other computers from a laptop. For example, on one laptop, we can RDP to workstation A, workstation B and the SBS server C for a test. Also we can RDP to these computers from another laptop. Please check if the same problem will happen when we RDP to different computers, including the SBS server.

Case 3: To check if this problem is related RWA on the server, we can RDP to the computers vid TS Gateway server directly. To bypass the RWA and use the TS Gateway server directly, please use the following methods:

a. Open Remote Desktop Connection on a laptop

b. Click Options, then click Advanced

c. Click Settings.

d. Click Use TS Gateway server settings and then enter the server like: remote.domain.com

e. Click OK to save settings.

Please try to RDP to workstation or the server again directly and check the result.

Case 4: I suggest you change a router from the laptop site. Sometimes, this connection can occur because the packets were dropped by the router. If this problem happens, we will get the connection lost or the similar problems.

Case 5: It could be offload options on the NIC driver. For a test, disabled offload on RDS server.

Case 6: In our case, it is router issue. We fixed it by upgrading the latest router firmware.

Our client had similar case. They have two Remote Desktop servers. By mistake, they forward the same public IP address to these two servers. After re-configuring the port forwarding, it works.

It also could be 3rd party security software issue. Try to run clean boot for a test.
