Remote computer disconnected because of licensing protocol.

Postby chicagotech » Sun Dec 09, 2007 10:54 am

Situation: When attempting to access a remote computer using RDC, you may receive this error: "The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing
protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again or contact your server administrator."

Resolutions: 1. Try to remove TS licenses from an RDP client. Please refer to this link: How to: remove TS licenses from an ...How to: remove TS licenses from an RDP client vi ... ?p=936#936 Bob Lin, MS-MVP, MCSE & CNE ...
viewtopic.php?p=936.

2. Verify that the license server is correctly installed.

3. Verify that the Terminal Server Licensing service is running on the license server.

4. Verify that the client, the terminal server, and the license server can communicate by ensuring that Domain Name System (DNS) is configured correctly on each computer. To do this, run the ping command from each computer to each computer using the IP address, FQDN, and the NetBIOS name. If any of the ping commands fail, verify the DNS configuration on the network.

5. Have you reboot the computer? If yes, can you telnet port 3389?

There are many articles explaining error:

"The remote session was disconnected because license store creation failed with access denied"

one of them:

Resolution

When using per-device CALs, RDP needs to write a license to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing

and if it cannot, then you will get this message.

o Reason: logged on user does not have rights to write to registry location

o Solution: Disable UAC or give user and application necessary rights

You may then need to run MSTSC or PNTSC or Internet Explorer as an administrator

In my case UAC was disabled and the app worked before... So looks like just registry corruption.

As mentioned when first error appeared I deleted the Registry Key. May be it finally did the job or just connection as admin. BTW the key was recreated (didn't show up immediately).

1. on Thin logged in as administrator. Run mstsc to one of RDSHs as Admin. It worked. Then connected as standard user. It worked.

2. Restarted Thin. It Auto logged on with Standard user profile.

Then I opened RemoteApp without any problem.

If you windows 10 has this problem, it could be the domain account Log on to settings. Go to the account property, make sure the all computers are checked in Log on to.

Create new HardwareID and Store keys under registry.
1> Click on Start Menu –> Go to Run Command box –> Type regedit –> This opens the registry Editor.

2> Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing

How to fix - The Remote Computer Disconnected the session because of an error in the Licensing protocol

3> Delete all the keys under MSLicensing : both HardwareID and Store keys and their subkeys. If you are not sure how to delete the key and its subkeys, just rename them as follows : HardwareID to HardwareID-temp and Store to Store-temp.

4> Reboot the system. Rebooting will create new Keys under HardwareID and Store and this will fix your problems.

5> If you had renamed the keys and subkeys instead of deleting them, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing and you’ll the two newly created folders – HardwareID and Store. Delete the old HardwareID-temp and Store-temp and close the registry editor.
