Disable/enable the POP3 and IMAP4 function for all users

Postby guest » Sun Oct 19, 2008 9:24 pm

You would like to know how to disable and
enable the POP3 and IMAP4 function for all users.

As you have known that by default, all mailbox users in your Exchange 2007
organization are allowed to use POP3 clients and IMAP4 clients to access
their mailboxes.

If you would like to disable all users to access their mailboxes via POP3
or IMAP4 protocol, we can stop POP3 and IMAP4 services on the Client Access
Server (CAS) to achieve this objective. If you would like to enable these
protocols for all users, we can simply restart these services. For your
reference, I have included the steps below:

How to enable/disable POP3 and IMAP4 services
====================================
1. On the CAS, click start, click Run, type: services.msc
2. Right click "Microsoft Exchange POP3", select stop/start to
disable/enable this service.
3. Right click "Microsoft Exchange IMAP4", select stop/start to
disable/enable this service.

If you would like to disable specific user to access his mailbox via POP3
or IMAP4 protocol, we can disable related Mailbox Features for this user.
If you would like to enable these protocol for this user, we can simply
re-enable the Mailbox Feature. For your reference, I have included the
steps below:

How to enable/disable IMAP4/POP3 for a Mailbox User
=======================================
1. Start the Exchange Management Console.
2. In the console tree, expand Recipient Configuration, and then click
Mailbox.
3. In the result pane, select the mailbox for which you want to enable or
disable IMAP4 or POP3.
4. In the action pane, under the mailbox name, click Properties.
5. On Mailbox Feature tab, click POP3 or IMAP4, select enable/disable.
