Postby guest » Sun Oct 19, 2008 9:09 pm

Once for a while, our Exchange 2003 server logs Event ID 2102 - Process MAD.EXE (PID=3192). All Domain Controller Servers in use are not responding as follow. What does that mean? Do I need to worry about it?

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeDSAccess
Event Category: Topology
Event ID: 2102
Date: 9/18/2008
Time: 2:15:02 PM
User: N/A
Computer: OWA
Description:
Process MAD.EXE (PID=3192). All Domain Controller Servers in use are not responding:
dc1.chicagotech.net
dc2.chicagotech.net

- From your problem description, I understand that you noticed that the Event
ID 2102 is logged once for a while. If my understanding is not correct,
please feel free to let me know.

Before we go further, I would appreciate your help in clarifying the
following situations:

1. Is the domain controller installed with the Exchange server?
2. Are all domain controllers in the same Active Directory site as the
Exchange server?
3. Besides this Event ID, have you encountered other symptoms?
4. What is the OS version of the domain controllers?
5. Is this Event ID logged when restarting this Exchange server?

 1. Is the domain controller installed with the Exchange server?

No.
> 2. Are all domain controllers in the same Active Directory site as the
> Exchange server?

Yes, but the Exchange is OWA located in the DMZ.

> 3. Besides this Event ID, have you encountered other symptoms?

It may come with Event ID 2013 as below

Event Type: Error
Event Source: smtpsvc
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2013
Date: 9/17/2008
Time: 8:09:25 PM
User: N/A
Computer: CBGOWA
Description:
SMTP could not connect to any DNS server. Either none are configured, or all
are down.

> 4. What is the OS version of the domain controllers?

We have both 2000 and 2008 as domain controllers. 2000 will be removed soon

> 5. Is this Event ID logged when restarting this Exchange server?

Can't do it now. But I think so because we keep receiving this event in the
last month.
