Will Exchange 2007 have downtime when transferring FSMO role

Postby guest » Sun Oct 19, 2008 8:00 pm

You want to confirm if Exchange 2007
will have down time when transferring FSMO roles to the new DC

According to my experience, we need to make sure the Exchange 2007 server
could contact the new DC through DNS properly.

After transferring the FSMO roles and decommissioning the old DC, the
Exchange 2007 services could automatically failover to the new DC. There
should be no down time.

Meanwhile, it's a best practice to do the following jobs after transferring
the FSMO roles

1. Restart the new DC
2. Then restart the Exchange 2007 server
