Exchange 2010: Initialization failed when opening EMC

Postby guest » Mon Jul 30, 2012 11:05 pm

I'm running Exchange 2010 SP1 update rollup 1. This all happened after me and my Exchange guru was configuring a redirect for OWA. After we successfully redirected OWA to the correct site we could never get into the Exchange Management Console. It failed to login with domain\administrator account. I've read tons of articles on this issue but nothing we tried works. I was just hoping to hear some different fixes that others may have used to get this resolved.

Have you tried 'Run As Administrator' on the EMC? That's resolved 99% of my EMC issues in the past.
Alternatively, have you tried putting the redirect back using the command line?

I resolved my issue. Here was the fix. There was a conflict between web.config files. These files are located in \inetpub\wwwroot\web.config and \Exchange Server\V14\ClientAccess\PowerShell\web.config. After renaming the one in inetpub to web.old I was then able to open EMC. Once I got it open I then configured my redirect of OWA to see if it would break again. It didn't but it does create web.config in \inetpub\wwwroot after you configure your redirect.
I guess my first one was corrupted and causing conflicts with the powershell web.config. So it may have been a rare case, but maybe this will help others that come across the same thing.
