SCCM Client Installation Issues

Postby guest » Mon Jul 30, 2012 8:39 am

I running on push SCCM Client to a target computers,

Main structure that i have :

•All servers running Win 2003 R2.
•SQL 2005 SP2 server and the SCCM server also up and running.
•Target computers running Vista Enterprise.
•The network is set up as a single site.
SCCM Configuration:

•I am in Mixed mode- NO Server Locator.
•Boundries is set up using Active Directory.
•Management point configured.
•Fallback Status and Reporting point running.
•All client assigned to the site.
•Firewalls are turned off on the client systems & Network discovery is on. ( Windows Vista )
some clients reporting with the following error while i tried to install SCCM Client:

Report Status Message Details :

The program for advertisement "SCCMXXXX" failed ("SCCMXXXX" - "Advanced Client Silent Upgrade"). The program was able to be executed but the system was restarted unexpectedly before the program could be completed or before status could be recorded. No installation status MIF was found after the system restarted. Possible cause: The program performs a restart of the client computer when it completes, but the 'After running' setting in the program's properties is not set to Program restarts computer, or the client machine was restarted while the program was running. Solution: Verify the above. If the program does a restart when it completes, even if it only requires a restart in some cases, modify the program's properties and set 'After running' to 'Program restarts computer'.

Event ID on SCCM Server:

SMS_CLIENT_CONFIG_MANAGER on computer SCCMSERVER reported: SMS Client Configuration Manager cannot connect to the machine "ClientComputer". The operating system reported error 5: Access is denied.

Questions:

What is the best way to install SCCM client?

Where actually client install on the target computer?

What the service name for SCCM Client?

Also i want to know a way to check the successful connectivity between client & SCCM Server?

Many question in there ...

There's one thing that I do not understand: you're asking for a way to install the SCCM client but you are also mentioning advertisement details (Report Status Message Details). So there has to be at least on client ... but anyway ...

The best way? It depends ... Client push, GPO, WSUS or a combination of them. There's no "one fits all" best practise.

It's installed in %windir%\system32\ccm by default (on x86 systems).

The service is called "SMS Agent Host" or ccmexec.

You are actually doing an upgrade instead of a client install. You can't install clients through an advertisement, however you can upgrade them.

The error you see reported in the log has been covered numerous times in the forums (primarily in the Software Distribution forum). If you want details, check there. However, it is very likely not an error really, but expected behavior.

The error 5 is access denied during the push, meaning that the site server does not have admin rights to the target client computer.

For client to server connectivity, I've covered this in numerous posts also (see a trend, search the forums first :-) But essentially, you check the ccmexec.log to see if there are any HTTP errors after inventory data (or other data) has been generated. Or just check to see if the client data is in the database.
