Move or clear computers from SCCM collection

Postby chicagotech » Thu Jul 12, 2012 9:31 pm

Q; We are running SCCM 2007. We created a software distribution collection and want to test group computers. In the Membership Rues, I add my computer host name by going to Query Rules. After I apply it, many computers show up on the software Update collection. I find if I delete those computer in the collection, all those computers will disappear from the system collection and it may take a couple hours (depends on the schedule or heartbeat discovery) to come back. Is there a way to move the computers from the collection instead of delete them from the system collection?

A: No, do NOT delete computers from a collection--that deletes the computer object completely--it doesn't "remove it from the collection only". You have to get your collection query correct, not delete objects.

Yes, you are right about "You have to get your collection query correct, not delete objects". After the post, I went to the Query Rule Properties again, and added "All Windows Vista Systems" on the "Limit to collection". I know it is stupid way to do, but clear all computers since we don't have any Vista systems. Does that also cancel the software update on those removed computers?
