SCUP 4.5 "Authentication of file failed, error 0x800b0004"

Postby guest » Mon Jul 09, 2012 8:44 am

Environment consists of a single primary site server with MP, SUP, DP, RSP and FSP. There is a remote SCUP 4.5 server with SQL 2008. Everything is running x64.

I have imported in the adobe flash, reader and acrobat catalogs into SCUP successfully. The metadata has been published to WSUS and it appears when creating search folders for Adobe updates in the SCCM console.

The issue arises when I attempt to download the adobe updates. I am given the errors below in the patchdownloader log:

“Authentication of file failed, error 0x800b0004”

ERROR: DownloadContentFiles() failed with hr=0x80073633

I've researched high and low on this issue and nothing seems to fix it. I have all my infrastructure setup properly including my WSUS self signed cerificates in the trusted root and trusted publisher stores.

Any ideas?

Did you check the following KB articles:

System Center Updates Publisher downloads fail with error 0x800b0004 in System Center Configuration Manager 2007

You cannot distribute or install a software package in Windows Server 2003 if the software package contains a very large signed file

Also, please temporarily disable the firewall or reconfigure the settings to test it.

I have been doing some more testing myself... as it turns out the issue is linked to my IE settings... (I do use a proxy when I browse the internet)

I went into the IE Options --> Security --> Internet zone

choose Custom Level --

and then I enabled everything in here... Making my IE very unsecure... However, after doing this, I can download the Dell updates.

so, I guess the question is, what IE setting makes the cert error appear?
