From your description, I understand that when mounting the Recover Database by using Exchange Management Console, you got some error messages. If my understanding is not correct, please let me know.

Based on my experience, all restored databases will be in a dirty shutdown state. Please perform the following step to troubleshoot the issue:

1. For further analysis, please run "eseutil /mh" command to collect the information as the following example:

Eseutil /mh "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\RDB\rdb.edb" >C:\eseutil.txt

Please send the "eseutil.txt" to me as attachment at v-tiqin@microsoft.com

2. Go to the following path:

\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\<Recovery Database>\

Please capture the screenshot and send it to me as attachment.

3. Open Exchange Management Console, click "Mailbox" under "Organization Settings". Right click the Recovery Database and click "Properties". Go to "Maintenance" tab and select the "This database can be overwritten by a restore" checkbox. Then, please mount the database again.

Meanwhile, as you mentioned that this issue may because of the incorrect Active Directory server settings, you may create a new mailbox database for a test. If you are able to create a new mailbox database and mount it successfully, it indicates that the Active Directory settings for the Exchange server is correct.

If you have anything unclear, please feel free to let me know. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

1. I will send you the screenshot and eseutil.txt after this post.

2. "This database can be overwritten by a restore" has been checked.

3. If I try to create a new mailbox in RDB2, I receive this message.

I would like to say sorry that I did not make the example of the commands clear in my previous e-mail. The <'> is missed in the command "Eseutil /p" and "Eseutil /d". And also I would like to let you know that in Exchange 2010 SP1, "Isinteg" command cannot be used to repair the mailbox database on Exchange 2010. Instead, we use "New-MailboxRepair" to repair the database.

Please run the following command:

1. Eseutil /p "<Database Path>" (Please make sure the path is correct.)

2. Eseutil /d ""<Database Path>"

3. New-MailboxRepairRequest –Database "<Mailbox Database_Name>" –CorruptionType ProvisionedFolder,FolderView,SearchFolder,AggregateCounts

Please note: after running the first two command, please mount the database and then run "New-MailboxRepairRequest" command.

Here I capture the screenshot of running these commands in my test environment for your reference.

If you encounter any issues when running the commands, please feel free to let me know. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

First, I would like to explain that according to the result. The first two commands are running successfully. For "New-MailboxRepairRequest" command, I would like to let you know as I mentioned in my previous e-mail, this command cannot be run when it is dismounted. It is an expected behavior that the error occurs.

According to the latest error message "MapiExceptionTooManyMountedDatabases", it indicated that you have mounted too many databases. At this point, please perform the following steps to further troubleshoot the issue:

1. Run the following command to get the database information:

Get-MailboxDatabase >C:\db.txt

Please send "db.txt" to me as attachment.

2. Please run "Eseutil /mh"

Eseutil /mh "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\RDB\rdb.edb" >C:\eseutil.txt

Please send "eseutil.txt" to me as attachment.

3. Please collect application log as the following steps:

===========

a. Click Start and click Run and type "eventvwr" (without quotation marks), press Enter.

b. Right click Application and click "Save Log File As"

c. Compress the Log file into Zip or Rar format and send it to me as attachment.

If you have anything unclear, please feel free to let me know. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Re: Can't mount recovery database in Exchange 2010

Postby chicagotech » Tue Dec 14, 2010 4:18 pm

From "eseutil.txt", the database is in a clean shutdown state which means that the database should be able to mounted. If the database still failed to be mounted, it is most likely that the database is corrupted.

Before we can judge that the database is corrupted, please perform the following steps to mount the database:

1. Copy "Exec Database 1.edb" to a safe location.

2. Delete all the Recovery Database created before.

3. Create a new Recovery Database.

4. Copy "Exec Database 1.edb" to the new Recovery Database folder and rename it to the same name of the database folder. (For example: if you create a Recovery Database which is named as RDB, the name of the database folder will be RDB. Then, rename "Exec Database 1.edb" to "RDB.edb")

5. Please mount the database.

After completing the above steps, please let me know the result.
