Are you using wired and wireless at the same time? Posting the result of

ipconfig /all may help.

You may want to assign everyone full rights on both Sharing and Security.

This may be a bug and you don't need to do that in the XP. This post may

help too.

  Hello,

I've a Vista Ultimate laptop and a Win2003 Server standalone (no AD). I

connected from Vista to Win2003 to browse shared folders without any

problem. Then I activated offline folders in vista and syncronized some

folders content. All ok; I worked on the laptop and now I need to

syncronize

  it.

When I now try to connect to Win2003's shared folder, I have security

problem. Vista ask me for the remote password, but then it reports

"windows

cannot find \\server\folder. Check spelling and try again". I checked on

win2003 event log that Vista has beed authenticated. I think it's a big

bug

in Vista when offline folders are enabled.

I'm unable to browe any remote folder.

  Is there a solution?

  thanks

Stupid question, but are you trying to configure the router by

connecting the laptop to it with an ethernet cable? If you're trying to

configure it wirelessly, that's why you can't. Use a cable instead.

If that isn't your issue, install Firefox and try using it. If it works

with Firefox, you've got some security setting and/or add-on in IE that

is preventing the access.

Lack of visibility is a problem with Server Message Blocks.  If by wireless, you

mean a WiFi router, check for "Isolation Mode" or "VLAN".

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html

Also look for an inconsistent NetBT setting, or a personal firewall problem.

<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-windows-networking-using.html>

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-windows-networking-using.html

Or are you talking about an ad-hoc WiFi LAN, without a router?  That's a tricky

setup, and not all WiFi equipment will do that with reliability.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2007/07/ad-hoc-networking.html

If no help yet, do some diagnostic work.  Look at logs from "browstat status",

"ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net config workstation", from each

computer.  Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions

precisely (download browstat!):

How are you trying to hook the laptop to the internet?

And don't just say "with a modem".

EXACT details.

The error message saying that the IP Address is in use is correct, as it is

the same IP Address as the XP PC is using. If you were in a network the IP

address of each computer has to be different, otherwise how can they be

recognised as different workstations?

Hi - I'm no expert, but have you tried setting the network adaptor to

have "automatic IP" and "automatic DNS".  I think it could be that this

is your network card.  I had an "unidentified network" prior to doing

this, and then alot of my other problems were solved also.

I did a system recovery to 1 month ago. Stil the same problem.

So system recovery again to yesterday (although it was not working

yesterday...).

The result is now that he discovers two networks, one "THUISNET" which is

the one i need, and still that "unkown network".

Sharing files is now possible.

Sharing internet is not possible as i have to "disconnect one of the active

connections".  How can i do that ?

I have the exact same issue with a VISTA Lenovo Laptop

wired -- everything works as expected

wireless -- although I can get out to the internet with problems via my

wireless AP in my firewall -- I have numerous "local network issues related

to not being able to properly resolve names on the network

something is definitely screwed in VISTA wireless..

Swapping harddrives to one with XP on it on same hardware does not have any

wireless problems........................

For the security reason, VPN connection may not allow you to access other

networks.

I'm searching for the wireless when no other network connections are active.

I restarted the PC back to Factory, and left it of the domain.  But after

doing something the same thing has happened.  It must be an update or

something.  But i haven't experienced this on any other Vista PC.  But only

used Thinkpads this is a Vaio SZ4.

I've tried updating wireless lan dirvers etc.

Help!

I have Vista Business and when I connect using my company's VPN it shows

connected but my NIC shows unidentified network, then it shut off the

internet. I cannot browse the internet or my company site. I tried setting up

Windows VPN still does not work. IT at work is baffled also. Any suggestions?

It could be the VPN client is using remote network gateway but that doesn't

allow you to access the internet. Post back the result of routing table may

help.

Right now I am connect but the NIC shows unindentified network and there is a

RED X on the line between network and internet. The line and the globe are

gray in color where they were blue before I connected. I cannot seem to see

the network card properties on this NVidia Network Controller.

This is a connected routing table with above error.

You Need to Enable net bios over Tcp/ip That worked for me after hours

of messing with windows firewall hope this helps.

Same here - Only thing that REALLY makes me regret buying Vista :(

Same problems as the above posters - every 60 seconds i get a spike of

~12-2500 ms. Tested it by doing a Ping to my router (ping 192.168.1.1 /t)

while not connected to the Internet and while connected. Tested the same way

on a dual-boot Windows XP Professional (DK) with no problems.

I have also tried WLAN Optimizer and Vista Anti-Lag, but those does not work

on my setup.

Sandberg Wireless NIC (Ralink chipset).

LinkSys WRT54GL Router.

Windows Vista Home Premium.

Internet gaming is pretty much impossible with this bug.

Follow up --->  I removed NetBIOS over TC/IP on both Network Adaptors

(Home & Tablet) and also made sure the Home PC's Network Adaptor had

automatic IP and DNS addressing.

This seems to have allowed the Tablet to find the HomePC on the Network

and now both PCs are accessible from each other....*

HOOOOORRRRRAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY !!!*

the super G 108 is proprietary to Atheros. it relied on a

manufacturers utility in XP to achieve this proprietary rate. I

haven't seen any vendor utilities to enable this on Vista. You'd

have to check with the individual vendors. I'd start with Netgear.

Let us know what their answer is.

This worked for me after same message:

It turned out to be a Vista problem.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233/en-us

has the solution, which involves adding one value to the Windows registry .

My laptop is now connected wirelessly.

1.Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit

in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type

your password, or click Continue.

2.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}

In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the

network adapter that is connected to the network.

3.On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.

4.In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, and then

press ENTER.

5.Right-click DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, and then click Modify.

6.In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

7.Close Registry Editor.

our problem is not that the xp computer does not appear onnetwork map, on the

contary it appears there but not on the network page. I, like some of the

other posters have installed the lltp but this does not help. I also

installed network magic which worked fine. However this is atrial programme

that runs out in seven days and I will be back to square one. This is

ludicrous, having to go to a third party and pay for something that microsoft

should sort out.
