Interesting. We do have WINS setup on our DC. (Server 2003 R2 SP2)
Still
had the problem over VPN.
Second, I thought that WINS was no longer required for a Server 2003 network
if you do not have any legacy operating systems. Are you saying that
Vista
now requires WINS to function correctly on the network?

I don't think you can do that. However, you may have two options. Assuming
you are the administrator, you logon the administrator or run as
administrator if other user logon and I don't want to relogon.

I assume you are speaking of the last paragraph. What of the second, then?
When I first attempted to access a shared folder on a
Vista
computer, I was
prompted for a username and password. I entered the main user's account
credentials and logged on in that way. Now, however, I have demoted that user
and have added a new administrator, and would like to be able to relogin to
that computer with the new credentials.
Are you saying that is not possible?

if other computers show on network map but not show on network, this could

I`m not certain what your problem here is but this worked for me.
Couldn't get my new Acer Aspire 3680 to connect to my slightly older
Gigafast router/WAP WF719-CAPR
(actually a CC&C WA-2204A router - it is registered at the FCC under this
name - but AKA Gigafast WF719-CAPR, AKA Blanc Wireless G router BW54R11, AKA
MSI RG54SE , AKA Bluecomm WA-2204A, AKA Zonet ZSR1114WE).
It turned out to be a
Vista
problem.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233/en-us
has the solution, which involves adding one value to the Windows registry .
My laptop is now connected wirelessly.
1.Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit
in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type
your password, or click Continue.
2.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{GUID}
In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the
network adapter that is connected to the network.
3.On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4.In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, and then
press ENTER.
5.Right-click DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, and then click Modify.
6.In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7.Close Registry Editor.

Re: No network - server execution failed

Now I also note that my memory activity seems weird. In task manager the
amount of free physical memory stays constant regardless of how hard I load
the system (e.g. max load = solidworks with 3d controller and lots of add-in
modules, 2x eve-online clients, apache server, 2 x tomcat servers, PDMWorks
server, outlook, excel, word, media centre playing riddick, etc) or not (all
of this off), the available free memory seems to be < 100MB. I should on
paper have a couple of GB spare when it's all turned off.
I also note that my computer > properties says that RAM is not available,
and I can find no reference to RAM/memory under the Device Manager.
Theory: there is a problem with the memory, or at least the reporting of how
much is available.
Effect: the above, plus the Network list manager tries to see if enough RAM
is available for it to run (does it do this?), doesn't get a satisfactory
reply, and takes it's ball and goes home.
Help? please?
By the way, MS email help says to contact Dell, as the OS was pre-installed
(as are 80+% of new OSes) and Dell says that because it's software to go
elseware.
