Situation: When attempting to download install Microsoft Identity Foundation in Windows 2008 R2, you may receive this message: Installer encountered an error: 0x80096002. The certificate for the signer of the message is invalid or not found.

Resolution: you may want to install Microsoft Identity Foundation using Roles and Features wizard. Or the Microsoft Identity Foundation has been enabled.
