Case Study - The system has detected a conflict for IP address

Situation: the client reported some of their computers kept receiving: "The system has detected a conflict for IP address" error.

Troubleshooting: from the result of ipconfig /all in the problem computer, we found that there was another DHCP in the LAN beside Windows DHCP. We use ARP command to find out the DHCP MAC address and from the MAC address, we identified there was a Linksys wireless router with DHCP enabled. The client admitted they just had added a Linksys wireless router last week. Disabling the Linksys DHCP fixed the problem.
