Case Study - Event ID 1000, 7011 and 7031 - Exchange Server

The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated unexpectedly

Situation: The client setup a front-end Exchange 2003 and a back-end exchange 2003. Both servers have Exchange Server 2003 SP1 installed.

Problem: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service will crash periodically. When this problem occurs, there are 3 events created.

Event Source: Microsoft Exchange Server
Event ID: 1000
Description: Faulting application store.exe, version 6.5.7226.3, stamp 407db771, faulting module ese.dll, version 6.5.7226.2, stamp 407b0d48, debug? 0, fault address 0x0004516d.

Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7011
Description: Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for a transaction response from the MSExchangeIS service.

Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7031
Description: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

Resolution: 1. Microsoft has a hotfix for this issue. If the hotfix is not available, you may wait for the next hotfix and SP2.
