Cannot establish the VPN through Netgear RO318

Situation: The client setup VPN behind a Netgear RO318 router. Whenever he tries to establish the VPN, he receives Error 721 or 800.

Troubleshooting: 1. Telnet port 1723 and get respond.

2. We can establish the VPN in the LAN.

3. PPTPclnt and PPTPsrv to test GRE and PPTP shows the IP Protocol 47 or GRE is not open.

Analysis and resolution: Netgear RO318 is not built for PPTP pass through. It is only built IPSec pass through. Replacing the Netgear router with other VPN pass through router or setup IPSet VPN.
