How to remove all viruses from your computer

If your computer is infected with a virus, you should remove it as quickly as possible. Please check this post: How can I tell if my PC is infected?

In many cases, re-installing the OS is faster than removing the virus. Note: Before reinstalling, make sure that you have all of your important data backed up. If, for some reasons you can’t re-install the OS or you don’t want to re-install the OS, here are some suggestions how to clean the virus.

1. Run system restore. Please refer to this page:

2. Run virus scan software.

1) Using a Live CD

Since the infected PC's virus scanner might be compromised, it's probably safer to scan the drive from a Live CD. The CD will boot a specialized operating system on your computer, which will then scan the hard drive.

The listed below are FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs:

•Kaspersky Rescue CD

•BitDefender Rescue CD

•F-Secure Rescue CD

•Avira Antivir Rescue Disk

•Trinity Rescue Kit CD

•AVG Rescue CD

2) Run the anti virus software on Safe Mode.

3) If the anti virus software doesn’t work on the Safe Mode, create a new user with a new profile to scan the virus.

4) When scanning the virus, make sure your infected system remains disconnected from the internet while it is infected. This will prevent it from being able to download new editions of viruses (among other things).

5) Remove suspicious programs from boot by running msconfig or Autoruns. Please refer to these pages:
