IP conflict because of adding a DHCP router in LAN - Resolution with screenshots

Situation: The client report a IP conflict issue in their LAN.  these are steps we troubles hooted it. .

1.      Run ipconfig /all on the client to find the default gateway.

2.      Run ping command to fnd out the default gateway or DHCP, for example ping 192.168.1.1

3. Then run arp command to find out the router MAC Address, for example,

arp -a 192.168.1.1

 Interface: 192.168.1.103 --- 0xb

  Internet Address      Physical Address      Type

  192.168.1.1           00-13-10-08-f6-db     dynamic

3. Go to this website Vendor/Ethernet MAC Address Lookup and Search and enter first 6 digital number of the MAC address to find out the vendor. In our case, we found the DHCP router is linksys router. Finally, we found the router in our IT room.

4.      In a case, we can’t find the DHCP or router, setup one of computers with the same IP address, for example 192.168.1.1. That may conflict with the router or DHCP and cause the router a problem.
